Careers In Business Scholar

Careers in Business—Camp for College Credit

Apply Today

Pursue your future and start your college journey this summer with EDUcamp Scholar.

Hosted by Bob Jones University’s School of Business, this 3-week summer college immersion program allows students to experience life on campus, connect with business professionals from around the world, develop their business skills alongside BJU’s expert faculty and create a business plan or company analysis leading to a boardroom presentation — all while earning 2 college credits!

Open to a small group of rising high school juniors and seniors, students enroll in BA 111 (Introduction to Careers in Business) and receive individualized attention from BJU’s business and accounting professors.

The goals for students in this course include: employing critical thinking in the production of quality work; forming Christ-centered goals of stewardship; and evaluating career direction based on personal abilities and interests. A final presentation evaluation celebrates student work accomplished during EDUcamp Scholar.

Eligibility & Requirements

1. Limited to 10 rising high school juniors and seniors who are selected by BJU faculty. Applicants will be notified of their status no later than May 1.

2. Open to all applicants who demonstrate the ability and desire to contribute positively and benefit from the course, as evidenced by their application materials.

3. Students are expected to be in workshops all day for three weeks and work evening hours refining concepts and projects. Students interested in this course are highly motivated by accomplishment and see this camp as an opportunity to consider whether or not they want to study business or accounting at the undergraduate level.

4. Students cannot be absent from any daytime workshop or evening business lab.

5. English Proficiency: All applicants who speak English as a second language, including U.S. citizens, must submit results from TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language). Since proficiency in English is a prerequisite for acceptance, applicants must retain an acceptable score on their test; BJU requires a minimum result of 93 on the TOEFL test. See more information about TOEFL.

6. Write a Statement of Purpose on your Business EDUcamp Scholar application. The Statement of Purpose is a 400-500 word response to each of the following questions:

  • Students attend Business Scholar EDUcamp for a wide variety of reasons, but all share a high level of motivation that can be used in business. What kind of business project will you be interested in (entrepreneurship or accounting) if you are admitted to this course? Feel free to mention your desired industry or professional goals. For example, you could talk about your desire to start a service business, or how you would like to become a CPA or a trusted financial advisor. Your picture of these may not be completely clear, but you should have some idea of a direction to go that will serve the Lord and others using your gifts. Next, what personal goals do you hope to achieve or skills do you hope to develop by completing this course?
  • BJU’s EDUcamp Scholar has high expectations of students. Describe a time when you had to be self-motivated to work through and complete a project or task. What are the personal skills that helped you? What personal skills would you like to improve? Tell your story of how you are motivated to complete your best accomplishments.

7.  Upload your resume and evidence of qualification. Your resume and at least two pieces of evidence of qualification must be uploaded digitally. Your one-page resume should briefly highlight your best qualifications for this course and tell about your work experience (including volunteer work) and your education and extracurriculars. Two professional references should be provided on your resume with contact information. Evidence of qualifications may include photos of you working (as a volunteer or for pay), demonstrating leadership or showing your level of motivation. Evidence may include a spreadsheet or other project you have created to accomplish a goal. Be sure to include a few images of your work related to your proposed area of interest mentioned above. Examples: for entrepreneurship, show or describe some entrepreneurial or small business/small organization work you have done previously; for accounting, show or describe some financial-related work you have previously done.

8. Accepted applicants must register as a student at BJU. Applicants will complete the Registration form under the guidance of the program director during week 1 of camp.
