Insects and spiders are all around us and contribute to our well-being and pain every day. Learn how to collect and identify insects and spiders from different habitats such as fields, forests, streams, lakes and urban areas. You will take home your collections and collecting kit. Campers will compete for the best insect collections. Learn the life cycles and behavior of insects and spiders and cultivate a deeper appreciation of how these cool critters point to an incredible Creator.

Arrival/Departure

When to Arrive

Camp check-in for all campers is on Monday between 8-8:30 a.m. at the Elementary School Building for 2nd-5th, and the Middle School Building for 6th-8th.

Drop-off each day will be from 8-8:30 a.m. at the Elementary school for 2nd-5th, and the Middle school for 6th-8th.

What to do When You Arrive

When you arrive on campus, follow the signs to the Elementary school for 2nd-5th, and the Middle school for 6th-8th for check-in on Monday morning. Camp staff will meet you and give the camp T-shirt as well as share a schedule for the week.

All supplies needed for camp will be provided unless otherwise noted in each specific camp information.

Please note: BJU cannot be responsible for money, valuables or personal articles.

What to Wear

Long athletic shorts, jeans or pants, and T-shirts are the normal camp attire. Tennis shoes are recommended. Swimsuits for girls should be one-piece garments.

Lunch will be served in our dining common in an all-you-can-eat buffet style. Any food concerns (allergies, diet restrictions, etc.) can be noted in the online registration form.

Cell Phone Policy

Cell phones and personal devices are to be dropped off at the check-in desk for safekeeping and they can be picked up when your child is being checked out.

Dr. David Boyd

Dr. David Boyd

Dr. David Boyd teaches introductory biology and animal biology at Bob Jones University. His training and experience give him a unique perspective that is invaluable in training students to think like biologists.

He is an active vegetable gardener and maintains a small flock of egg-laying hens. He also enjoys bird watching with family and friends.

Dr. David McKinney

Dr. David McKinney

Dr. David McKinney teaches the biology portion of the liberal arts core course Essential Science, as well as physiology and biology labs. Dr. McKinney currently directs undergraduate students in the study of spider physiology, with topics ranging from immunology to neurophysiology.

When not out collecting spiders or photographing insects, Dr. McKinney enjoys writing fiction with his wife and spending time with his children.
