Nursing camp provides an opportunity for high school students interested in nursing or the allied health professions to experience professional nursing firsthand. Come meet and learn from nurses from a variety of specialties with a wealth of experience. See how the Lord uses a career in an allied health profession such as nursing to open opportunities to minister to the physical and spiritual needs of our broken, hurting world. Interact with nurses and other campers interested in the allied health professions as you encounter the art and science of nursing.

Activities

  • Learn and practice clinical nursing skills such as vital signs assessment, therapeutic communication, medication administration, and more. (See tentative schedule below.)
  • Interact with and learn from BJU Division of Nursing faculty and alumni who both teach and practice professional nursing in a variety of settings.
  • Learn how healthcare professionals interact with each other and their patients.
  • Explore a day in the life of a variety of nursing specialties and interact with common equipment and skills they use daily.
  • Perform nursing skills in simulated clinical experiences using high-fidelity mannequins and medical equipment in BJU Division of Nursing’s accredited Simulation Center.
  • Learn and practice core principles for safety in the healthcare environment.
  • New: Tour a local hospital, interact with their nursing education department, and learn from a panel of allied health professionals from a variety of specialties.**

Supply List

Campers are welcome and encouraged to wear scrubs they purchase.

It is preferable that campers wear pants during nursing camp as they may be on the floor, on stretchers, etc., for planned activities. See note below for students participating in the hospital tour.

Two waiver forms must be signed for campers to be permitted to participate in this camp.

Hospital Tour Requirements

Campers must be 16 years of age or older as of July 12, 2026, to participate in the local hospital tour due to requirements set by that healthcare organization. There will be alternate activities for students younger than 16 years of age the day of that activity. Students attending the local hospital tour will be required to wear their camp T-shirt with scrub pants or other appropriate pants (jeans without holes are permitted; shorts or capris of any kind are not permitted). Camp Director

Will Johns, University Headshots, Bob Jones University, BJU, September 26, 2023 (Hal Cook)

Will Johns

Will Johns graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from Bob Jones University in 2024. He is a Registered Nurse on an Inpatient Oncology unit at a local hospital here in Upstate SC. As a student at BJU, Will enjoyed participating in some of the additional opportunities offered to students by the Division of Nursing. This included taking a medical mission trip through the BJU Study Abroad program and leading on student-directed committees including the University Nursing Association and Student Nurse Advisory Council. Will enjoys opportunities to interact with individuals interested in a career in the allied health professions. He loves to introduce others to the fascinating world of professional nursing and tell them some of the things he wishes he knew when he first began to explore the career himself.
